Last weekend I met Lauren and her fiance Brad for a short engagement session that they won during my holiday giveaways back in December. The first diptych photos was taken at the putt-a-round at Cox’s Golf Driving Range where Lauren and Brad had their first date. Then we headed to a location with a more natural feel. After taking a few photos together, I heard some bottles clanking together and when I glanced down the hill there were a couple girls hanging painted glass bottles in a tree. They were gorgeous, quite the find and by the time we made it to the bottom of the hill it started to rain, but we continued to take photos anyway. Things cleared up a bit just long enough for us to run back to our cars. Thanks for taking a look, and thank you Brad and Lauren, it was nice to meet you in person finally!
To say that Emily and Brett were fully willing participants in this engagement session would be a little bit of a stretch… Katie and I met up with Brett and Emily at Mill Mountain Coffee in Blacksburg a little over a week ago to discuss the details of their wedding and wedding photography. It just so happened that I had a few exposures left over on the roll of 35mm film that I started the day before for an engagement session so I begged them to let us do a few ice breaker photos use up the roll of film and get more comfortable with each other before their wedding in September. Thankfully they were down for our unplanned, and extremely-mini engagement session in a, how do I put this delicately… less than attractive area of Blacksburg.
More fun stuff… I was talking to Emily online later on about the name of Katie and my wedding photography business and how we were struggling to find a good one. Emily suggested Katiebird and Hollybee Photography and we both LOVE it so thank you Emily for giving us a name!

It was New Years Eve at the Virginia Tech Duck Pond and the wind was blowing, hard. I met up with the Buchanan family for the most super-micro-mini maternity photo session of all time, we were out there for all of about 10 minutes before we couldn’t take the cold any more. Even the nice quilt that they brought along was no match for the wild winds. Thankfully little Mr. Micah was a good sport and let us get a few shots before shouting “COLD!” in protest. The Buchanan’s are expecting their second child (a girl, yay!) in February. You can see a couple more photos from our session on the Holly Cromer Photography Facebook page.

Meet the Purcell family! A little fun fact: four years ago, I photographed this family and they were the first family portraits that I ever took! I was so excited when I heard from Laura again, she saw photos that I took of a co-workers’ baby on my Facebook page, Blacksburg is such a small town. It was nice to meet their new baby girl, she was quite fond of my camera. We had planned on doing more photos outdoors, but it was chilly the day before Thanksgiving so we had to make it snappy so the little ones didn’t get cold. Thank you so much Purcell family, it was nice to have a chance to work with you again all these years later!
Meet the Shepherd family! This is another one of the holiday mini sessions from this weekend taken at Wong Park in Blacksburg. Thankfully things warmed up a little bit for us Saturday afternoon so we were only cold when we hung out in the shade for too long. Little Mr C was quite a character with a multitude of silly faces to share with me. He took charge of our shoot and tried to pick out the very best locations in the park for us to take photos so he could move on to playing on the slide and swings.
Meet the Patel family! They are so great, I have taken maternity and baby photographs for them in the past year also. They were one of the families that I photographed at Wong Park in Blacksburg over the weekend as part of my holiday mini sessions. It was freezing cold outside even though it isn’t really noticeable in the photos. Baby A’s little teeth were even chattering so we had to get through the session quickly. I love how coordinated their outfits were with festive touches of red!
