Some photos I took in January in dreary downtown Blacksburg around 6:30am when I like to walk around and pretend I am the only one who lives here. Rainy days and Christmas lights in January, where is the snow already? I’m tired of waiting! Even just a long weekend of snow that melts on Monday would be fine with me.

Last weekend I met Lauren and her fiance Brad for a short engagement session that they won during my holiday giveaways back in December. The first diptych photos was taken at the putt-a-round at Cox’s Golf Driving Range where Lauren and Brad had their first date. Then we headed to a location with a more natural feel. After taking a few photos together, I heard some bottles clanking together and when I glanced down the hill there were a couple girls hanging painted glass bottles in a tree. They were gorgeous, quite the find and by the time we made it to the bottom of the hill it started to rain, but we continued to take photos anyway. Things cleared up a bit just long enough for us to run back to our cars. Thanks for taking a look, and thank you Brad and Lauren, it was nice to meet you in person finally!
To say that Emily and Brett were fully willing participants in this engagement session would be a little bit of a stretch… Katie and I met up with Brett and Emily at Mill Mountain Coffee in Blacksburg a little over a week ago to discuss the details of their wedding and wedding photography. It just so happened that I had a few exposures left over on the roll of 35mm film that I started the day before for an engagement session so I begged them to let us do a few ice breaker photos use up the roll of film and get more comfortable with each other before their wedding in September. Thankfully they were down for our unplanned, and extremely-mini engagement session in a, how do I put this delicately… less than attractive area of Blacksburg.
More fun stuff… I was talking to Emily online later on about the name of Katie and my wedding photography business and how we were struggling to find a good one. Emily suggested Katiebird and Hollybee Photography and we both LOVE it so thank you Emily for giving us a name!

Some photos from the first snow in Blacksburg of 2012. I hope there is much more to come, as much as I complain about being out in the cold, I really love snow. Plus I’d love nothing more than to do some snowy engagement photos!
New Years Eve was a busy day for me! In addition to the Buchanan’s maternity portraits, I got together with my new wedding photography business partner, Katie of Katie Estes Photography and her husband Brandon for a Virginia Tech couples session. Katie and Brandon are former Virginia Tech alumni who have returned to the area to take more classes. I am so happy to have a photography buddy in town again. We roamed around the Duck Pond on campus, Sandy Hall, the Newman Library, and the pylons at War Memorial Chapel. You can see a few more of the photos from this couples session over on the Holly Cromer Photography Facebook page!
And if you are getting married in 2012, Katie and I still can accept a couple more weddings at our special rate ($750 for two photographers + wedding photo booth), check out this blog post for more information.

It was New Years Eve at the Virginia Tech Duck Pond and the wind was blowing, hard. I met up with the Buchanan family for the most super-micro-mini maternity photo session of all time, we were out there for all of about 10 minutes before we couldn’t take the cold any more. Even the nice quilt that they brought along was no match for the wild winds. Thankfully little Mr. Micah was a good sport and let us get a few shots before shouting “COLD!” in protest. The Buchanan’s are expecting their second child (a girl, yay!) in February. You can see a couple more photos from our session on the Holly Cromer Photography Facebook page.

I was so excited to meet Baby C last weekend having not seen his mom since I took her maternity photos back in October. He is the most handsome little guy with an amazing cowlick swirl on the top of his head. He gave us lots of yawns but didn’t end up falling asleep until it was time for him to head home for the night.

This past Sunday I got together with my long time friend Tiffany [I still have multiple marble composition notebooks full of notes that we wrote each other more than 10 years ago] and the rest of the Carroll family at the Inn at Virginia Tech for some holiday photos. I have a Christmas themed first name, they have a Christmas themed last name, how fun and festive are we? I love to visit the Inn/Skelton Center every holiday season to check out the various trees decorated by local groups. Of course we were especially fond the Virginia Tech Hokies themed tree!
You see that last photo? That’s the face that you get to see when I outrun a feisty little red-head… And I am glad I beat him because the pouting led to a cute picture so Jameson, I’m challenging you to rematch soon! His brother, Dawson looks really happy in the photo above that because he genuinely did beat me so he’s officially challenged to a rematch as well.
