A couple weeks ago I had the honor of working with Kirsten Krupps for the third time. I met her a year ago through Model Mayhem and while she lives in Illinois, I have gotten to work with her when she comes into town to visit her boyfriend. She is such a blast to work with because she isn’t from the area so I feel like she is seeing Blacksburg in an entirely different way from me… and also because Kirsten is a model and a photographer so she knows how to work it on both sides of the camera.
I picked Kirsten up in the morning and we grabbed a couple donuts from Carol Lee and headed back to my house for the first part of our shoot. Then we shot all around downtown Blacksburg, the Blacksburg Transit, and the Virginia Tech campus including inside of one of the greenhouses at the Hahn Horticulture Garden. By the end of the day we were exhausted from lugging around so much gear, I had my digital SLR, film SLR loaded up with Revolog Tesla 1 film, and one of the Polaroid Land Cameras that Emily let me borrow to learn how to use for her wedding in September. As you can surely see from the Polaroid images I have not mastered the process for exposure or focusing, but I like playing with the camera and I like the results even though technically they are not shot correctly.
More to come later on of Kirsten, I still have photos for the Bookish series that I shot with her, but I haven’t finished the roll of film yet. And hopefully we’ll be shooting together more when she comes down at the end of the semester! More from this shoot are up on Facebook if you are interested.
